Here are answers to the most common questions about our tours in the USA’s national parks, Alaska and Hawaii. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, get in touch — we’re here to help.

Our self-guided trips are designed for independent travelers who want the freedom to explore at their own pace. We take care of the logistics — accommodations, maps, route notes, and luggage transfers — so you can focus on the journey. On cycling tours, we include well-maintained rental bikes, with options to upgrade to electric assist models.

Our guided trips are led by expert local guides and run in small groups of 4 to 12 guests. You’ll explore iconic trails and lesser-known routes, with your guide handling camp setup, meals, and sharing insights along the way. Some trips include food drops or support vehicles so you can travel lighter and enjoy the experience more fully.

Each trip is graded for difficulty so you can choose what suits your fitness level. Some trips are relaxed and scenic, while others are more demanding. Check the trip notes for detailed grading and training tips, or view our trip grading system.

Yes. We regularly customize private trips for couples, families, groups of friends, schools, and clubs. Whether you want to adjust the itinerary or travel on different dates, we can help make it happen. Learn more about private group departures.

We use a mix of well-located lodges, boutique hotels, and guest houses — chosen for their character and comfort. On wilderness trips, expect tent camping or rustic backcountry cabins. Wherever you stay, we aim for clean, comfortable, and close to nature.

We choose campsites that bring you closer to nature — often away from busy areas. Tents are shared (same-gender) unless you request a private tent. We keep our environmental impact low and always follow Leave No Trace principles.

Most trips include daily breakfast, and many also include lunch or dinner — check the trip page for details. On guided trips, meals are often prepared by your guide or camp crew. We highlight local flavors and can cater to most dietary needs with advance notice.

Tips and gratuities are not included unless stated in the trip inclusions. While not mandatory, tipping is appreciated and customary. We provide guidance in your pre-departure information.

We include as much as possible to keep your trip simple and good value. Most trips cover accommodation, park permits, meals, guides, equipment (where relevant), and logistics. See the trip notes for a full list of inclusions.
